GHG® FFD LS Shell Decoys by Rusty Hallock
I have always believed that you never have too much realism in your Canada goose spread. With that being said, I have always used sleeper full bodies and over-sized shells. It does not matter whether it is warm season, resident birds or frigid late season migrators, I will have at least a few sleeper and feeder shell decoys in my spread. By adding as many different body positions to your spread as possible, you add realism to your spread. From my observations of Canada geese in the field, you always see geese sleeping or being lazy by sitting and eating in a field when geese are relaxed and feeding. The only thing I change during the course of the season is that I add more or less shells to a spread as dictated by weather and temperature. In 2009, Avery introduced their GHG Life Size FFD Shells. For the waterfowler that wants to add decoys to their decoy spread and their storage space is at a premium, the GHG Life Size FFD Shells are the perfect addition to their decoy rig. The Life Size FFD Sleeper Shells are one piece, which allows them to be easily stacked. The feeder and active shells have detachable heads, which also allows them to be easily stacked. GHG offers these Life Size Shells in 3 different packages: · Harvester Pack, Rester Pack and Sleeper Pack. Each of the packs comes with 12 decoys. The Harvester Pack contains 6 Feeders, 4 Resters and 2 Sleepers; The Harvester Pack allows the hunter to add the most body positions to their decoy rig. The Rester Pack contains 6 Resters and 6 semi-Resters. · The Rester Pack is the perfect choice for the hunter that wants to add a more relaxed appearance to their decoy rig. · The Sleeper Pack contains one piece sleeper shells. The Sleeper Pack is the perfect choice for the hunter that hunts sand bars, shore lines, and ponds. Don’t overlook the Sleeper Pack for the field hunter either. The one piece Sleeper Shells are the perfect choice for the field hunter to add a relaxed appearance to a decoy spread, no matter if you are hunting early or late season. Even though they are life size, their 20.5” size allows them to be visible even at a distance. Some waterfowlers are concerned about the longevity of shells that are stacked on each other. Even though the new GHG Life Size FFD Shells were introduced in 2009, I had the opportunity to hunt over these decoys for the entire AP Goose Season in Maryland. My decoys held up the well for the entire season and the flocking on these decoys showed little to no wear. There is no doubt that these FFD Shells will be around for a many seasons to come. For the waterfowler that wants to add realism to their decoy rig without sacrificing storage space, the GHG Life Size FFD Shells are the perfect answer. FFD LS Canada Shell Decoys in the Snow...
